The fundamental goal of the Laotian Cultural
Center and Museum is to be able to tell the story
of the Laotian and Asian American’s unique
culture—to as wide an audience as possible.
The Center’s mission is to reveal this story to the
public through an educational approach using anthropology, architecture, archaeology,
biography, geography, art history, traditional
science, and folklore. Exhibits can also be utilized
as an educational resource for better
understanding of Asian culture in general and
Laotian culture in particular. The center will
promote continuing discussion, study, and
development of ideas about Laotian and Asian
cultures, heritage, values and future preservation.
This is a public place between the Museum and
Community Center. Decorative walls include plaques
honoring donors and participants who have made the
Center possible.
The public gallery is designed to host exhibitions on a
number of Asian topics, including cultural artifacts, Asian-
American refugees, and prehistoric subjects and research. Each section of the gallery will be designed in
a different architectural language , reflecting elements of
Southeast Asian culture.
The Center will offer classes and work
shops in the literary arts. Classes will
include creative writing, poetry writing, and
screenplay writing. The classes will be
taught by qualified instructors and may
qualify for school credits. The Center will
also sponsor book signing events. Other
classes will focus on a variety of Asian
poetry, including the study of famous
Lao writers.
The Center will feature snack bar. The food court will provide lunch and dinner. Services will
include food and beverages for all meetings and reception events scheduled in the Center's
conference and meeting rooms located throughout the facility.
Seating 500 people, the state-of-the-art
multi-function hall will be used for a
variety of performances including musicals,
dramas, comedies, classical plays, cultural
performances as well as children's plays
and poetry readings. It will also offer
the opportunity for lectures and
conferences. The function hall can be turned into gymnasium which will be available
for both community and professional
organizations.
Long-range plans call for an amphitheater to be built, providing a space for outdoor
performance, classes, special events, folklore, cultural festivities and children's summer
camp programs.
The Center is planning to build a soccer field, volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts,
takraw courts (traditional Asian foot volleyball), children playground and an open field space for cultural festivals.
